Writing Music for Film: A Conversation with Oscar-Winning Composer John Corigliano  (Conferences / Seminars / Lectures)

Join us for a conversation with American composer John Corigliano, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, an Academy Award (for the score to The Red Violin), and multiple Grammys.

Mr. Corigliano will discuss the relationship between music and film, providing an overview of the scoring process and describing how music contributes to the overall effect of a film, propelling its story and creating a specific emotional response in the viewer. He will talk about his experiences in writing the scores of "Altered States," "Revolution," and "The Red Violin" and share anecdotes about working with Hollywood directors and producers. Film clips will be shown and the discussion will include an audience Q&A.

This event is part of Mr. Corigliano's weeklong residency in the MSU College of Music that will be capped off with a concert on Saturday, April 24, featuring his modern masterpieces The Red Violin Caprices, Circus Maximus, and Pied Piper Fantasy.

Hosted by Bob Albers, Senior Video Specialist in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media.
